PLEASE READ THIS LEAFLET BEFORE YOU START TO USE THIS MEDICINE.

1. What is in your medicine?

Exorex Lotion contains Prepared Coal Tar 1% w/w which is a treatment for psoriasis. The other ingredients are polysorbate 80, vitamin E, sodium propyl paraben 0.05%, methyl paraben 0.1%, complex of esterified essential fatty acids, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, industrial methylated spirits, xanthan gum and water.

Exorex Lotion is a dermatological preparation for external use only.

Exorex Lotion is available in bottles of 100ml and 250ml.

2. What is Exorex Lotion used for?

Exorex Lotion is intended for the treatment of psoriasis.

3. Before you apply Exorex Lotion

Exorex Lotion may not be suitable for a few users. You should tell your pharmacist if you think that you may be sensitive to any of the ingredients or if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

Exorex Lotion may be used by children under 12 years of age.

Use with care around the eyes and other sensitive areas of the body such as the mouth. If any lotion accidentally enters the eyes, rinse with water immediately.

Exorex Lotion should not be applied to the genital or rectal areas.

Do not use if:

  • You suffer from folliculitis and acne vulgaris;
  • You are allergic to sunlight;
  • You suffer from a condition called lupus erythematosus;
  • You suffer from infection of the skin or have broken skin.

4. Can Exorex Lotion be used with other medicines?

Yes, you can apply Exorex Lotion whilst taking other medicines.

5. When you apply Exorex Lotion

Follow the instructions about when and how to use the product. Your pharmacist can help if you are not sure about anything.

6. For use in adults and children over 12 years of age

  • Ensure that all areas of affected skin are clean.
  • Apply a thin layer of Exorex Lotion two to three times a day to these areas.
  • Massage gently and leave to dry.

For use in children under 12 years and the elderly

The lotion may be diluted by mixing with a few drops of freshly boiled and cooled water.

The lotion is suitable for use on the skin and the scalp. Do not use more frequently than this leaflet recommends.

6. After you have applied Exorex Lotion

Previous users have found the application of a thin layer of emollient cream to be helpful in keeping the affected areas moist after application of Exorex Lotion.

Coal tar makes the skin more sensitive to sunlight. Exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided after application of Exorex Lotion.

Exorex Lotion may cause staining of clothes or hair.

If any Exorex Lotion is accidentally swallowed call your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital accident and emergency department. Always take the bottle with you so that the product may be identified.

7. Can Exorex Lotion cause problems?

Exorex Lotion does not normally cause problems (side effects). Sometimes the product may cause skin irritation. If this happens consult your doctor or pharmacist.

You should also tell your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any other side effects not listed in this leaflet.

8. Storing Exorex Lotion

You must keep the bottle in a safe place out of the reach and sight of children. The medicine could harm them if swallowed.

Do not store above 25°C.

Remember to always shake the bottle thoroughly before opening and use.

On the pack you will find the letters ‘EXP’ or ‘Expiry Date’ followed by some numbers. The numbers are the date after which the product is no longer fit for use. Do not use the bottle after this date but return it to your pharmacist for disposal.
